Mother's Day Progress on Baby's room

The electrical work is done so it is time for the sheet rock! This is real progress!
A corner and not a hole into the hall!

A hallway not a... well... progress!

The last gap to fill is the pocket door = no insulation!

My love SP has worked so hard! THANK YOU!

Day 3 on Babies Room

Day three was long a grueling for SP. He had to sweat a lot of  pipes and in awkward positions.

Yes that is all in the floor.

Also when working in the floor of one room, you rather quickly become the ceiling of another.
Then there was a the very frightening  outlet in the middle of the room. It had to be moved but it alsp made no sense.

See it's all tucked into the wall over to the left? It's the light switches for the overhead light and ceiling fan in our room.

We are getting closer to the rough construction work to be done. I  look forward to the room being finished.

Making Baby's Room as big as it gets

Baby has been stuck in the smallest bedroom that isn't a bedroom for far too many of his ten years. After last springs house fire ruined our chances of getting the final construction finished, it is the push for this spring. SP worked very hard over vacation and got the bulk of the rough work done. When we originally made baby his room, from a nook in our room and the old laundry room, the walls went up with a lick and a promise that we might be back later to finish it. All the pipes and vents for the laundry were cut and capped and remained in place. This week, they were forced out of their comfort zone, out into the light of day, and put out of their misery. Thank you SP for all that you do.

In the beginning there was a snug little room with bamboo floors and gentle green walls.
Then the fun began.

This was the part I wanted to participate in but I was too busy cooking stock and canning in the kitchen, so I just ran up periodically to take pictures.

The funny thing was finding that we had basically encapsulated an odd period of time, when we were battling a litter of flying squirrels in the attic. Those little rodents really liked to get in the dryer vent and thus into Baby's wall. When this particular wall was closed up, we left a loaded trap in it. SP tripped the trap after breaking down the wall.

Baby inspecting the progress.

Getting messy in there!

A quick glimpse at my good little elf SP.

That's our new pocket door. I think we have added 1.5 feet to his room.

Looking chaotic

The good, the bad, and the down right ugly.

See ya Debris!

A closer look at the progress after Day one.

Day two SP attacked the tougher aspects of getting the wall taken apart.

Definitely progress!

Out the window, out of mind!

SP contemplating a huge problem.

Day three proved to be the worst and toughest... no need to glorify that until it is over and done with.

A few of my favorite things

Yes, that is my one beloved Lilac that is busting out spring on Easter Sunday.
That is also my three beloved children (from left to right) Pickle, Puckstopper, and Baby.
And no, no matter what I ever tell you or them or otherwise, I don't have a favorite. All love.

Today I

... went outside and ate sorell from the field, picked winters rocks out of the garden, and walked barefoot down the road with Baby. He went to work hammering nails into a board when we got back to the house.

It was a beautiful day outside, allowing a quiet pensive time to process a lot of big events to over the past daysweeksmonth. Death does that to you. They say death comes in threes, so I hope the OBL death is the last for a while, tho that one I will not shed a tear. For the victims I will and hope that they will now rest in peace and I will gain strength from the coming season.

Spring is here in Maine, May arrived with glorious weather. My forsythia is in bloom so the time of flowers in bloom all around is just beginning.

There's an early May flower in the grace - cute, white, and carpets the back embankment.
I need to figure out it's name. It always brings a smile to my face when I see it. I am going to go ask Ellen now. :D

I hope the change of seasons and greater exposure to sunlight will help me embrace all the endless possibilities of our future and guide me into the smartest decisions possible. This economy stinks and making sound decisions is daunting.

The Farm's Family Picture

Baby set this up this morning. He told me it was a family picture. He asked me to take a picture. he requested I work on it at the library.
Do you know what that means?

This doesn't bode well

Baby decided he needed to wear Daddy's helmet for our walk.

Uh oh!!!

It looks like all three of them will be playing hockey.

I wish they could have taken after me and spent every day in a pool or something.

Homemade Baby Wipes

Our good friends just had a baby girl named Asher, who is having some sensitivity to wipes. I offered to change her diaper this morning, and when Dad handed me one wet paper towel and one dry paper towel, I remembered that I too had used paper towels for a sensitive child. I went and quickly dug up my old homemade baby wipes recipe and realized that that was one of my earlier efforts in sustainability. So in honor of Asher, I can't think of a a better post for today than this recipe.

Ingredients
1 3-quart lidded plastic container (like Rubbermaid or Tupperware)
1 roll of paper towels
1 Tablespoon any baby shampoo
2 Tablespoons any baby oil
1.5 cups boiling hot water

Process
  • Cut paper towel roll in half. (you will use 1/2 per recipe so reserve second half for next time)
  • Place half of roll, cut side down, in the plastic container. (do not remove cardboard center)
  • In a bowl, combine all ingredients.
  • Slowly poor over 1/2 paper towel roll.
  • Put lid on, and let towels thoroughly absorb liquid.
  • Remove cardboard center and enjoy many happy diaper changes.
