I have been meaning to put these photos up for a while, but sadly I am a negligent blogger. When we moved the chicken coop into the garage for the winter, I begged SP to help make an easier way to clean it out because it was screwed down to a pallet so no critters could get in. This winter we have a new wood stove in the basement and it is by far one of my favorite additions to the house. It provides radiant heat to the first floor. Just in time for fall colors, I made this Noro Iro hat to match my favorite fall scarf. Not that this Indian summer is giving me the weather to wear it but at least I am ready! I love it! 5 cans of green beans, 4 pints of chutney, and two more cans of sauce! It was a very productive weekend canning and I am the proud new owner of a pressure canner!The chutney is extra special dear to my heart - Mom's recipe but made with fresh tomatoes for the first time! It is a little lighter in color because many of the tomatoes were beautiful yellow ones.

Step 1. Clean your sauce tomatoes and remove greens and stems. Gently core tops.Step 2. Place prepared tomatoes in a stock pot such as a dutch oven or this Le Creuset and bring to a boil.Step 3. Turn down heat and simmer until tomatoes fall apart. You can also use a potato masher to assist. You will have a wonderful start as pictured below.The next step it to run it through the food mill twice.

This one makes me happy for and yet miss Puckstopper. He has been in North Carolina for a week visiting his Grandmother. Together they took a class and received their scuba certification. A family favorite, I put up six pints of bread and butter pickles yesterday. I must say though, that I should have added a dash extra sugar when I added a dash extra vinegar to cover them in the pot. This is our bird tree.We don't put it up every year, but when we do it stays up for a while. SP got most this collection while he was living in Idaho. I made this one for Susan for Christmas. Even though the picture is blurry, I really like how the top and bottom are both green, but in the top, the pink makes a subtle stripe in and then goes away again.

This is my sister Mush wearing the Christmas present I made her. I took a gamble with it, in color but more so the fiber I chose. This was the first Noro hat I made out of more fiber than wool or silk and as a result is thicker gauge. To make Mush's hat, I used one skein of Noro Kochoran , with a fiber content of 50% Wool, 20% Silk, and 30% Angora. It is thicker than the Noro I typically use

I have had some set backs recently.Below is last Saturday's sandwich.I fell Columbus Day weekend and broke two bones in my foot. The problem is that it took the "Experts" in my life a full 3 weeks to figure out what was wrong. First the ER took X-rays and told me I had no breaks. WRONG. The house is back on the market. We have worked really hard to make everything look perfect, including power washing and staining the porches, weeding and mulching all the garden beds, and buying lots of flower pots and plants to put in them. We used extra granite from the fireplace installation as stands for the pots on the front porch. I am pretty pleased - it looks great!
